Modalities

The primary modality that I use is Internal Family Systems which helps people to address challenging emotions and behaviors by understanding your mind as a system of unique parts that have fallen into conflict. Through allowing each part to tell its story and be witnessed by you, your parts are able to see that they all have the same goal: your happiness. Often times we continue to react to new situations in habitual ways that are stuck in the past and no longer working. IFS helps people to safely explore and shift habituated responses through collaborative dialogue with your internal world and insights that allow for change.

I am also trained in Polyvagal Theory which uses education about the mind and nervous system as well as tools and exercises to help survivors of trauma and childhood neglect reduce reactivity and activation around internal and environmental factors. As fight and flight reactions decrease in intensity, I then help clients the skills to recognize safety.

For clients who particularly struggle with interpersonal conflict, I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy which teaches tools for better managing your relationships. Other modalities that I draw from include: Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Humanistic Therapy.
